“In a Different Light” is a project at the intersection of dance performance and installation.

The audience is immersed in a suspenseful and atmospheric space that evokes powerful associations: an alien planet, a silent underwater world, a spaceship on an unknown mission…

In the Great Hall of the Riding Hall, visual artist William Speakman constructs a site-specific installation of slender, lightweight light fixtures, forming a narrow corridor beneath a movable, suspended ceiling of lights. The audience is seated at the front of the narrow corridor.

The installation creates a space within a space, responding to the dimensions and characteristics of the spacious Great Hall.

The movable ceiling of lights generates varying lighting moods while simultaneously creating clear spatial structures that significantly influence the choreography.

The music by Hasan Nakhleh interacts with the dancing bodies within the space.

“drawing closer – layers of motion” allows viewers to immerse themselves in spaces and landscapes that can be experienced directly and immediately.

We place the body in different spatial contexts, merge the bodies with the space, represent the body itself as a landscape and in turn play with the field of tension that arises through these connections.

The spectators experience how the perception of the body and the dance changes in different environments and how different levels of meaning arise.

“One body in the forest and forest in many bodies. They touch, embrace and support each other; only to fall apart again, blown away by the wind. They disappear, appear and disappear again. “drawing closer – layers of motion”

Performance at Tanzfest Bern May 2021

Human encounter, the encounter with the other and the unknown. In this 30-minute dance piece, performer and audience member meet in pairs in different rooms of the building. The performance emerges both from the individual decisions of the participants and from dialogue, thus offering new perspectives on dance.

“Inside Out / Upside Down” plays with different spatial perspectives and expands the viewers’ visual perception. Sometimes the performers actually move on stage, sometimes they disappear from view, only to reappear directly on the large screen from a bird's eye view. Physical presence and visible disappearance, together with a video work shot for Upside down/Inside out, create an idiosyncratic world that invites you to immerse yourself.

Wind and water sculpted rocks
Walls of ancient stone gravitate around us
Nebulous ghosts pass through trees minds
Fearless she climbs deeper into stillness
Fuses with the landscape, looses horizon, disappears
Storms echo whispers lyrics about forgetfulness
Radical changes through wild waters eternity
A floating needle caresses the membrane of a thought
